South Jersey native Billy Walton has been playing live music since he was 14 years old. Throughout that time, he’s been part of Bruce Springsteen’s Asbury Park scene, toured extensively as a member of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and has also performed all across North America and Europe.

After all of those accomplishments, Walton is now turning the focus on his solo career, and he’s bringing a preview of his latest works to Somers Point this weekend.

“This is the main thing for me now,” says Walton, who is working on his next album that he hopes to release sometime in the spring.

Instead of taking the traditional route, Walton and his band are looking to crowdfunding to source their latest release.

“It’s a great way to go — fan-funding has been awesome for the arts. It’s basically like pre-selling an album or a show — it really helps the bands create.”

The songs themselves fall into what Walton calls “a little bit of storytelling,” with a focus on South Jersey scenes and attitudes.

“We’re a bunch of kids from New Jersey,” he reveals. “We’re always going to be that, and it comes out in the music.”

Images of the shore, heartbreaks and the excitement of being alive are common themes throughout Walton’s career, but now they’re boiling to the forefront.

“For this album we’re bringing the party — the Jersey Shore party — to it,” Walton says.

Walton will be bringing that “Jersey Shore Party” to Sandi Pointe 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in a special concert that will preview several songs from the unnamed, forthcoming studio album, which is his fourth overall. In a rare appearance with his full horn section, Walton hopes to capture the excitement of the classic Shore sound.

“If you’re from Jersey, you’re used to it, but it’s definitely different if you’re not from here,” he says.

Band Lineup: Richie Kaz: saxophone, Ian Grey: trombone, Shawn Marx: tenor, William Paris: bass guitar, Johnny D’Angelo: drums, Billy Walton on guitar and vocals.

Go See Them: “Tony Marts Presents: the Billy Walton Band” 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Sandi Pointe Coastal Bistro, 908 Shore Rd., Somers Point.
