Brett Scallions' first memories of playing in Atlantic City were in a cover band called Reel to Real almost 20 years ago.

That was before the group started playing original music and changed their name to Fuel, eventually releasing some of the most popular and memorable alternative rock songs of the '90s.

They released a number of nationwide hits and sold millions of albums.

Scallions is now the only original member still in the group, but they are still touring and playing their most popular songs, such as "Shimmer," "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" and "Falls On Me," along with some new works from an upcoming album.

"There's definitely going to be a little difference," Scallions says of having different band members today. "It's not a positive or negative difference, by any means. It's just different."

Fifteen years after the band's debut album, he said he's also changed, becoming a better musician and songwriter.

Some of their newer material also shows off different styles including blues and gospel.

When the group comes to Atlantic City again this weekend to play an acoustic, full-band set at Bally's Bikini Beach Bar, the setlist will probably feature some of those new songs, although Scallions also says anything can happen.

"It's all about jamming," he says. "If the band's having fun, everyone else is going to have fun."
