Every Thursday at Trump Beach Bar is Fat Thursday this summer, as Mojo Mozart & The Mardi Gras Swingers recently began a weekly residence filled with brass and beads.

The seven-piece group is comprised of veteran local musicians, many of whom regularly perform in other bands but came together for this new special project.

"It's an opportunity to do something really different that no one does in the city," says drummer and singer Michael Hoebler, of Atlantic City.

The group recently came together this past Mardi Gras, having all met previously from playing throughout the area. They're led by an experienced, world-traveling Cape May County native, who only goes by the stage name Mojo Mozart for their performances.

The group's first big show locally was in June during the At The Shore Gumbo Cook-Off and Music Festival in Somers Point. For its residency at Trump Beach Bar, the band will play a mix of traditional Mardi Gras music along with a few popular cover songs with its own flavor.

"The music is very groove oriented," Hoebler says. "The beat is really just to get people off their chairs and onto the dance floor."

Of course, they plan to incorporate some other elements of the Bourbon Street party scene as well.

"I know we're going to be bringing lots of beads to throw out at everybody," Hoebler says.

The band: "Mojo Mozart," lead vocals, piano, accordion, trumpet; Linda DeVaul, zydeco rubboard; Tamara DeMent, fiddle and vocals; John Duggan, saxophone; Jeff Schwachter, guitar; Sandy Eldred, bass; Michael Hoebler, drums, vocals.

See them live: Mojo Mozart & The Mardi Gras Swingers will perform every Thursday night through August at Trump Beach Bar in Atlantic City, starting after 7 p.m. and playing until closing.
