It’s not everyday we’ve got a lineup of world-class musicians taking part in a three-day, multi-venue music festival right here in South Jersey. Come Friday, April 21, however, we do, and we only have to travel as far as Cape May to see them. From soul to gypsy jazz to blues to Brazilian percussion, there’s something for everyone. And the venues? Just as good as the music. Here are six places to check out the Exit Zero Jazz Festival.
1. Cape May Brewery Stage at Cabanas. Right across from the beach, Cabanas Beach Bar and Grill is the quintessential Cape May bar. Head there on Friday for 9:30 and 11:45 p.m. shows with Philly Gumbo; on Saturday for 1 and 3 p.m. shows with Philly Gumbo and 10 and 11:50 p.m. shows with PhillyBloco; and on Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. show with Daisy Castro and 3 and 5 p.m. shows with PhillyBloco. 2. Carney’s Main Room and Carney’s Other Room. Known for having a great musical lineup both in their main room as well as their ‘Other Room,’ their sets during the Exit Zero Jazz Festival is no exception. On Friday, check out Stooges Brass Band at 8 and 10 p.m. in Carney’s Main Room, and Brianna Thomas at 9 and 11 p.m. in Carney’s Other Room. On Saturday, Stooges Brass Band takes the stage at Carney’s Main Room at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., and Frank Bey performs at 8 and 10 p.m. The Other Room’s Saturday lineup includes Brianna Thomas at 1:30 p.m., Daisy Castro at 3 and 4:30 p.m., and Brian Betz & Denis DiBlasio Quartet at 9:15 and 11 p.m. On Sunday, head back to Carney’s Main Room for two Frank Bey shows at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. or to Carney’s Other Room for two Brian Betz & Denis DiBlasio Quartet shows at 1:15 and 3:45 p.m. Located at 411 Beach Ave. in Cape May. 3. Ebbitt Room. Head to this acclaimed Cape May dining room for an evening of fresh food, excellent service, a sophisticated vibe and incredible music.
