Black Cat Bar & Grill is the locals' bar in Absecon, owner Jim Falivene says. It's the city's oldest establishment, dating back to the 1920s, and has been a tavern since 1933, as "a shot and a beer" bar with a takeout liquor store until the '90s.

Falivene and family took ownership of the Black Cat in 1978 and in the late '90s they added on a kitchen, turning it into more of a family-friendly restaurant and bar.

The menu specializes in homemade Italian cuisine, following the Falivene's heritage, with their most popular menu items being their homemade pizzas, Falivene says.

St. Practice Day:

Drink like the Irish, eat like the Italians. That's the thought Falivene had in mind when he came up with St. Practice Day, one of the bar's biggest nights of the year held annually on a Saturday in February. This year's St. Practice Day celebration at The Black Cat will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Entering its fourth consecutive year, St. Practice Day is an all-day affair at The Black Cat. It starts at around noon and goes well into the night. It features an Italian food buffet along with several Irish drink specials and live entertainment, including bagpipe musicians.
