When David Tyson dreamed up Caroline's by the Bay, he envisioned summer nights on the bay with live music and good company.

"He wanted it to be just plain fun," his 20-year-old daughter Caroline says. (Yes, that Caroline.) "You have a beautiful environment, a cool breeze, music, food, drinks, friends."

On summer nights, there's live entertainment both inside and outside as well as daily drink specials and impromptu deck dance parties.

"It becomes a real nightlife destination at around 9 or 10 p.m.," Caroline says, "and it appeals to all ages. A 21-year-old and a 51-year-old would both have a great time."

Caroline's opened its doors in 1998 when Caroline Tyson was just 7 years old. Many of Caroline's customers have watched her grow up.

"We have a lot of loyal customers who at this point are like family," she says.

Wednesday nights are dedicated to the locals with half-price drinks (try Caroline's Lemonade) and open-mic night.

"We wanted to give local musicians a place to jam out," she says. "They can come with their drums, guitars, whatever and take over the place. It's one of our best nights if I had to choose one."

But regardless of what night you're there, every night at Caroline's ends the same way:

"The deck's all lit up over the bay and the band closes out with Sweet Caroline," Caroline says. "I can't tell you how many times I've experienced that scene and it never gets old."
