It's a simple watering hole known for straight shootin' and hard drinkin'. The Mountain Bar in Bally's Atlantic City's Wild Wild West Casino is one of the best casino bars for a cheap pre-game or simply an inexpensive social night out. Contiguous with the casino floor, separated by a semi-circle of wooden pillars and surrounded by a faux mountainscape with Old West iconography, the atmosphere gets you in the mood for some no-nonsense good times. That, or the cheap drinks available all day, every day.
You'll make out like a bandit. Easily the biggest draw to Mountain Bar is its almost criminally cheap drinks. In most of Atlantic City, a drink special means a normally $6 or $7 beer is $4 or $5. Doesn't sound too special, right? Mountain Bar dramatically lowers the stakes, with beer prices starting at $2 and mixed drinks at $4. You'd have to head far west - meaning off Absecon Island - to find prices that are regularly that low.
They have drinks for both cowpokes and lady folk. The menu at Mountain Bar isn't just cheap light beer, although they have that in aces. They have a slew of other mixed concoctions, such as the colorful Grey Goose vodka, melon liqueur and pineapple juice combination that is the Villainous Vixen, or the Kentucky Tea, made of Red Stag Honey Tea, sour mix and cranberry juice. There are a dozen specialty drinks in all.
They integrate the new with the old. Embedded in what's supposed to resemble a wooden train bridge around the perimeter, are an array of flat-screen TVs that are constantly showing the latest sports. Whether it's baseball, basketball, football or hockey season, there is always something on, and typically a variety of different games on at any given time, with sound from the biggest game of the night pumped into the space.
Get down to square dancing on the weekends. The bar busts out the entertainment on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with the scantily clad cowgirls - known as the Vixens - dancing around the bar in their cutoff jean shorts and barely buttoned flannel shirts, backed up by a DJ playing popular party music. On Thursdays, prime party time runs 8 p.m. to midnight, and on weekends it goes from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
