One of the best parties along the shore each summer is Thunder Thursday at The Sea Shell Resort and Beach Club, and a main reason for that is the man behind the music: DJ Prime.

Prime, whose real name is James Rolfe, has been the resident DJ at the Beach Haven bar for the past two summers, and he returns each Thursday this summer to play a mix of upbeat Top 40 music with old-school classics.

He fits the weekly shows in a schedule that takes him around the state and country. The Island Heights resident also has a popular radio show on 103.5 KTU FM in New York City and another nationally syndicated show called the Weekend Throwdown with Jagger.

Rolfe also makes it down to Atlantic City occasionally at clubs such as Casbah in Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort and Providence in the The Quarter at Tropicana Casino Resort.

Still, he said the weekly shows at The Sea Shell are something special, and it's not just because of the $1 Coors Lights and SoCo and lime shots.

"It's family owned and operated, and in a family-oriented atmosphere like that we all accomplish great things," he says.

Rolfe does a lot of his own remixing and production that set him apart as an open-format DJ, but, for whatever reason, the song he plays last each Thursday is the one everyone knows best: "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.

"It's a staple, which I thought was peculiar," he says of the tradition that precedes his tenure there. "But parents tell their kids that's the song they play there. I thought they would riot when I first played it, but everyone just knows it and loves it."
