Johnny’s Cafe and Bar in Margate may look like your typical restaurant, but when the sun goes down and the dinner crowd empties out, the place converts to a full out dance party.

“It’s a massive party in here,” says owner Johnny Liccio, (yes, that Johnny.) “The DJ comes on, the disco ball starts spinning and the dance floor gets packed.”

Liccio opened the year-round restaurant in 2008, first as a BYOB restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In 2010, he acquired a liquor license, built two large bars and expanded the building, which is when the party really got started.

The back room addition, or the party room, includes a large square bar with seating for 30, a dance floor and a stage, additional table seating and several mounted TVs.

Liccio says his restaurant is meant to tip a hat to the old Latin Casino, a Philadelphia-area nightclub that opened in 1950 and brought in a slew of big time performers.

“They had swagger and that what I think that’s what I think we have, swagger,” Liccio said.

Johnny’s Cafe hosts live music every Thursday to Sunday. This week’s entertainment schedule includes Benny Marsala on Wednesday, Donny Cicrio on Friday and DJ George on Saturday.

Happy Hour:

Johnny’s has a daily happy hour from 4-6 p.m. with a $6 special on all drinks and select food options. On Wednesdays, the happy hour runs all night.

Cocktail service is also available on the weekends so people don’t have to worry about losing their seat to get a drink at the bar.

New Offerings:

Staring this fall, Johnny’s will be adding to its entertainment offerings by hosting regular jazz nights, opera nights and Frank Sinatra dinner shows with impersonators.

The details will be advertised in The Press of Atlantic City’s At The Shore publication in the coming weeks as well as on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
