If you haven't been to The Bayshore Bar in a while, you're in for a pleasant surprise. The illustrious North Cape May establishment, more formally known as The Bayshore Inn Restaurant, Bar and Liquors, has undergone an ownership change and complete renovation in the past few years, adding more open space, changing its menus and shaking things up by bringing in live entertainment several nights a week.

"It's the local town tavern, and it needed some TLC," says one of its new owners, Jim Linnington, who took over the business with Ed Niemann in 2010. "We gave it a breath of fresh air."

Linnington is the former owner of the now-closed Mangia Mangia Restaurant in Cape May, which he sold in 2007 with plans to retire.

"I attempted restaurant retirement, and it didn't work well for me," he says. "I missed the action, so when this opportunity came up, I took it."

As it is now, The Bayshore Bar serves lunch and dinner daily with a happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and live entertainment four days a week, featuring live bands every Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., karaoke on Tuesdays, also from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., and trivia on Sunday, starting at 9 p.m.

"At 10 p.m., this place converts to Club Bayshore," Linnington says, adding on that half of dining room is cleared out to create a small dance floor.

For those looking for a more chilled atmosphere, The Bayshore Bar also has a pool table, several flat-screen TVs, a juke box and plenty of seating around its full bar.

"People can come belly up to our bar, watch a game, and we'll thrown down a big bowl of popcorn," Linnington says. The full menu is also available at the bar.

Every Thursday at The Bayshore Bar is 'Open Juke Box Night' when patrons become juke box disc jockeys, playing their favorite songs for free.

Entertainment lineup: Tuesdays: Karaoke with DJ Jimmy J; Thursdays: Open Jukebox and Wing Night, with free jukebox 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Friday: Mystery Machine; Saturday: No Pressure; Sundays: Trivia Night with Jackie and Jimmy.
