The party seldom stops at Pitney Pub, a gastropub in Galloway Township known for its pong tournaments and DJs on Tuesdays, its Wild Wednesdays and its Thirsty Thursdays.

There also are performances by local bands every Friday and Saturday night.

Owner BJ Patel took over the pub in June 2011. Patel’s background is in culinary arts and he was looking for a space of his own when he stumbled upon the Pitney Pub, then named The Blue Marlin. He purchased and renovated the space, renaming it Pitney Pub, a nod to its original name, the Pitney Tavern, named after its location on Pitney Road in Galloway.

Because of Pitney Pub’s close vicinity to the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey — less then five miles down the road — Patel tried to cater to its students’ interests.

On Tuesday nights, the pub hosts a pong tournament with cash prizes and entertainment by DJ DC and DJ Sev, both Stockton students. On Wednesdays, it’s Wild Wednesday, the biggest night of the week at Pitney Pub, bringing in a crowd of approximately 300 to 400 people with live performances by local, up-and-coming guest DJs and food and drink specials.

“It gets pretty crazy in here on Wednesdays,” he says. “We have a lot of requests from people who are looking for a place to spin and we welcome them. If they are good, we’ll bring them back.”

Thursday nights are Thirsty Thursdays, with more drink specials, but no live music. Fridays and Saturdays feature live band performances starting at 10 p.m.

Aside from serving the college crowd, Pitney Pub also serves its many Galloway locals, including families during its dining hours. There’s an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet for $7.99 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday and happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
