The Windrift is taking it up a notch this summer with Level 2, an all-new elevated dining and nightlife experience with daily entertainment, dancing and a breathtaking ocean view.

Level 2 is the cap to a mega-renovation project that's been in the works since 2003, says Owner Paige Buckingham. It's more like the icing on a delectable two-tiered cake that is the Windrift Hotel Resort, a 45-year-old beachfront mega-property in Avalon that houses five distinctive bar lounges, dining room, pool, 89-room hotel, also renovated and remodeled this season, and an intimate sun roof that rests on top of Level 2.

"Level 2 is new level of service," Buckingham says.

The second-floor space debuted in late-May, featuring three full bars each with 16 beers on a frosted tap kept precisely at 32 degrees, a temperature-controlled white wine room, 12 flat-screen TVs, a DJ booth and an outdoor deck facing the ocean with fire pits, string lights and intimate seating areas.

The Level 2 structure is lined with nana doors, which fold open like accordions, creating an open-air environment. But if it's raining or too chilly, the doors also can be closed without altering the view, Buckingham says.

During the day, Level 2 is filled with tables, but at night the tables are pushed aside to make room for the dance floor, and the new state-of-the-art sound system and computerized laser lights come to life. Level 2 also brings in live bands such as Secret Service, The Amish Outlaws and Lost in Paris.

"This room just makes you feel good," Buckingham says.

Wing night:

For longer than Buckingham can remember, Tuesdays at the Windrift are wing night. Purchase a $5 souvenir wing night mug and get $1.50 Miller Lite Drafts and $7 pitchers from 4 p.m. to close. Or bring in your own Windrift mug for the same deal.

New this year, bring your wing night mug back on Wednesday nights for free entrance into Level 2, featuring a live band and $3 Three Olives drinks from 8 p.m. to close.
