Turtle Stone Brewing Company readies for launch party

Co-owners Ben Battiata and Becky Pedersen run and manage Turtle Stone Brewing Company out of Vineland.

After years of planning, Vineland's Turtle Stone Brewing Company will finally see its launch Saturday, April 21, at the Old Oar House Irish Pub in Millville.

Old Oar House will be the first pub to have Turtle Stone's brew on tap. For the event, which starts at 5 p.m. and will likely last late into the night, guests can enjoy original Turtle Stone brews like Red Rye Ale, which will continually be at the pub, and a hoppier American stout. There will also be a blonde ale beer called Hamaica that has a cranberry flavor.

Co-owners Ben Battiata and his fiancee, Becky Pedersen, have taken the helm of creating what they hope will become South Jersey's largest microbrewery.

"It's been taking us a lot of time," Battiata says. "We have a really good spot where we're at now in Vineland. We're still in the middle of construction there."

Eventually the brewery will have its own tasting room, where patrons can go and sample the different beers.

Some beer lovers got a sneak peek of the brew at this year's Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival.

"As soon as we got licensed, I brewed enough to get us to the A.C. Beer Festival," Battiata says. "We wanted to make sure we got that exposure, and we got a lot of people interested and a lot of good reviews, and calls and emails about putting us on tap. So we got a lot of interest just from the beer fest."

Anyone looking to quench their thirst on some of Turtle Stone's ales can expect drink specials, T-shirt and bottle opener giveaways, and a good time at the launch party.
