Lou DiVentura owns two nearby restaurants - Ventura's Greenhouse in Margate, geared for the shore's summer tourists, and Ventura's Offshore Cafe in Northfield, for the areas' locals.

The latter establishment, Ventura's Offshore Cafe, was opened in 1995 as a year-round place for area residents such as DiVentura, who lives in Linwood.

"We have a lot people who come in every single week, who've been comimg in since we opened" general manager Jamie Franzoni says.

As opposed to its sister restaurant which flourishes in the summer then practically hibernates during the colder months, the Offshore Cafe welcomes the wintertime as the opportunity to cozy up with its over-sized fireplace and Christmas decorations galore.

"People always fight for the table in front of the fireplace," Franzoni says.

First and foremost, Ventura's Offshore Cafe is an Italian restaurant, she says, but the restaurant's bar also is worthy of attention by itself.

Italian Happy Hour:

During the weekdays patrons flock to the bar between 4 and 6 p.m. for its Aperitive Italiano, aka its Italian happy hour, which is held in tribute of the Italian tradition, which brings people together at local bars or sidewalk cafes after work and before dinner for a quick drink and lite fare.

The Monday to Friday Aperitive Italiano specials include a complimentary food buffet, half-priced appetizers, $5 seven-inch pizzas, $6 Ventura's signature cocktails, $5 wine by the glass and a rotating selection of discounted draft beers.

The full bar also features a signature Offshore Ale, which was created exclusively for the restaurant by the Flying Fish Brewing Company, and an extensive signature cocktail menu, handcrafted by an in-house mixologist, Franzoni says.

House favorite cocktails include the V.O.C. daiquiri, made with Brugal rum, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, lime juice and agave nectar; as well as the vanilla-berry sangria with brandy, triple sec, pinot grigio, vanilla syrup, raspberries, orange juice and strawberries, she says. The entire cocktail menu and more can be seen on its website (see below).
