I get it all the time. ... "You have the coolest job in the world!" "What I wouldn't give to be in your shoes."
Most of the time, in fact 99 percent of the time, they are right. Sunday was not one of those times.
First of all, the drive to Lehigh was awful. Shore traffic turned it into a three-hour drive. Then, a torrential rainstorm hit us while we were standing outside the players dorms waiting to chat with a few of the rookies.
Next a swarm of some kind of flying insects (gnats, mosquitoes?) swarmed around everyone while coach Andy Reid was giving his annual "Welcome to training camp, we're thrilled to be here" speech.
Ok, rant over. Now for some tidbits.
DE Victor Abiamiri will miss a few weeks with a strained pectoral muscle, keeping his streak of bad luck intact. He missed the first four games of last season with a dislocated wrist. He just can't seem to stay healthy.
LS Jon Dorenbos is not here because, according to Reid, he has a case of shingles and is not allowed on airplanes.
Reid said the 30-plus club will return this year. That means all players 30 and over will get every third day off. The Eagles have 9 players aged 30 and over, including QBs Donovan McNabb (32) and A.J. Feeley (32), WR Kevin Curtis (31) and CB Sheldon Brown (30). P Sav Rocca (35) is the oldest Eagle, followed by PK David Akers (34).
