PHILADELPHIA - After suffering a serious knee injury late last season, safety Colt Anderson was just hoping to return in time to play on special teams this year.
He's accomplished quite a bit more. Anderson will be starting his third straight game at safety on Sunday' against Washington.
His teammates rewarded Anderson for his efforts Thursday by selecting him as the Eagles' winner of the Ed Block Courage Award.
"I was completely surprised when coach (Andy) Reid called my name today," Anderson said Thursday. "Just to be mentioned in the same category with guys like (previous winners) Mike Patterson and Michael Vick is a great honor."
In other news Thursday, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg confirmed that LeSean McCoy will start against the Redskins and share carries with rookie Bryce Brown.
They are concerned about Brown's fumbling problems, however. He's lost four fumbles in the last four games.
"We've been emphasizing ball security to the point of ridiculousness," Mornhinweg said.
Sunday's game will likely be Reid's final appearance as Eagles head coach at Lincoln Financial Field. Reid is expected to be fired at the end of the season.
The players are hoping he gets a nice sendoff from the fans in recognition of his accomplishments during his 14 seasons.
"He deserves a lot of respect from the fans for what he's done for this city and this team," defensive end Trent Cole said. "It's hard to win games in this league and he's won a lot (a franchise-record 140)."
