The Philadelphia Eagles have hired NFL veteran assistant coach Billy Davis as their new defensive coordinator.

CSNPhilly.com first reported the move. ESPN.com and NFL.com also reported it.

Davis, 47, most recently served as Cleveland's linebackers coach, but also has experience as an NFL defensive corodinator. He served in that role with San Francisco in 2005-06 and with Arizona in 2009-10. Eagles cornerback Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie made the Pro Bowl under Davis with the Cardinals.

"Awesome coach, great guy," Browns linebacker and former Eagle Chris Gocong said via Twitter. "Llearned  great deal from him. Philly should be excited."

In addition, a league source said reports that Jeff Stoutland will be Kelly's offensive line coach is "expected to happen."

Stoutland just finished his second season as offensive line coach for the University of Alabama after stints as offensive line coach with the University of Miami (2007-10), Michigan State (2000-06), Syracuse (1997-99) and Cornell (1993-96). He also served as Miami's interim head coach for one game in 2010.

The Eagles have yet to officially confirm any coaching additions since appointing Chip Kelly as their new head coach.
