CLEVELAND - The Eagles' offense came together just in time to avoid an embarrassing defeat Sunday.
Quarterback Michael Vick's 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Clay Harbor with 1 minute, 18 seconds left in regulation gave the Eagles a 17-16 victory over Cleveland at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
That capped a 91-yard, 16-play drive in which Vick completed 6 of 11 passes for 54 yards. He had played terribly up to that point, throwing four interceptions.
Until that drive, the Eagles seemed destined for season-opening defeat against a Browns team that is expected to finish last in the AFC North this season.
They were trailing 16-10 after Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson returned an interception 27 yards for a TD early in the fourth quarter. Strangely, the Browns did not attempt a two-point conversion.
The Eagles nearly wasted a terrfic performance by their defense. The Browns did not score an offensive touchdown. The Eagles collected four interceptions against Browns rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden. Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and safety Kurt Coleman had two apiece.
