PHILADELPHIA - Approximately 30,000 Eagles fans got their first look at coach Chip Kelly's practice methods during Sunday's public workout at Lincoln Financial Field.

"Curiosity brought me here," said Jordan McCoy, a resident of Horsham, Pa. who even tailgated in the parking lot before the practice. "This is a really cool scene. It almost feels like I'm at a game."

The Eagles got the fans involved even before the whistle sounded to begin the two-hour workout. The crowd roared when the team introduced Brian Dawkins, Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook among 40 former players.

McNabb, who was the Eagles' quarterback for 11 seasons (1999-2009) and holds all of the team's passing records, will officially announce his retirement as an Eagle on Monday morning.

The Eagles are scheduled to honor him during their game against former coach Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 19.

Kelly also drew a loud ovation when he jogged out of the tunnel with quarterbacks Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Matt Barkley. The former University of Oregon coach is being counted on to help the Eagles get back to the playoffs, something they haven't achieved since 2010.

"At first, I wanted anybody but Chip Kelly to be our coach," Holland, Pa.'s Matt Liberman said. "I was pretty disappointed when they hired him. But the more I heard about the stuff he's doing in practices with the (protein) shakes and music, the more excited I got.

"It's something fresh and new and that's what we needed. I'm looking forward to the season."

The team had given out over 65,000 free tickets to the practice, one of five that will be held at the Linc during training camp, but the threat of inclement weather evidently prompted some fans to stay away.
