PHILADELPHIA - Rookie Nick Foles will be the Eagles' starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
Eagles coach Andy Reid made that announcement Monday morning, citing Foles' recent performances and the team's current status at the bottom of the NFC as reasons for allowing Foles to play the final four regular-season games ahead of Michael Vick.
"Where we are at this point of the season, where we sit, I think it's the right thing to do," Reid said during his press conference at the NovaCare Complex. "He's playing well enough to help us win football games."
Reid said he spoke to Vick about the change on Monday morning and that Vick was "positive" about the decision.
Vick has missed the last three games after suffering a concussion. Last week, there were reports that he was worried about his job security, but both Vick and Reid denied it on Friday.
Vick is scheduled to undergo another ImPACT concussion test today and if he passes, he could be cleared to play again as soon next Sunday's game at Tampa Bay.
But if he's cleared, he will be a backup.
"The number one thing I want is for Mike to get healthy," Reid said. "I want him to get healthy so he can have a long career in this league."
Earlier in the day, Reid fired defensive line coach Jim Washburn, who was in his second season with the Eagles. Former assistant coach Tommy Brasher will fill that role for the rest of the season. (See related story)
