Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has already been ruled out for Sunday night's game at Dallas after failing a concussion test on Wednesday.

Vick reportedly was expecting to play against the Cowboys, however. ESPN's Ed Werder revealed Friday morning that Vick was so convinced he was returning to the lineup that he consulted UnEqual Technologies - the company that provided his protective vest - about obtaining a padded skull cap to wear under his helmet.

Werder also indicated that Vick thinks he's being benched more because of "politics" than injury.

Vick has been virtually incognito around the NovaCare Complex since suffering a concussion against the Cowboys on Nov. 11. Rookie Nick Foles will make his third straight start at Dallas.

In order to be medically cleared to play, Vick must pass the ImPact concussion test, proceed through all five phases of the team's physical exams, then be cleared by both an independent neurologist and team neurologist Dr. Gary Dorshimer.

Head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder is supposed to update Vick's status later today.
