PHILADELPHIA - There is a good chance that none of the Eagles' backup quarterbacks, including rookie Matt Barkley, will be playing in Saturday's preseason game at Jacksonville.

Coach Chip Kelly announced Thursday morning that Vick, who won the starting job for the regular season, will play at least the entire first half with the starters. Foles will then take over and play with the backups.

Barkley, the Eagles' fourth-round draft pick, will only get a series or two, if any.

"We'll try to get Matt in there if we can," Kelly said. "Nick needs a ton of work. One thing people forget is that he's just a second-year player."

Backups Dennis Dixon and G.J. Kinne won't play against the Jaguars. There is a good chance they'll be among the players cleaning out their lockers on Tuesday, when NFL teams are required to trim their rosters to 75 players.

"I'm trying not to worry about that stuff," Dixon said. "I'm focusing on doing what I can control to 100 percent of my ability. I have no idea what's going to happen. All I can do now is just pray and hope."

In other news, the Eagles confirmed that former offensive lineman Tra Thomas has been hired as an offensive assistant.

Thomas, who starred at left tackle for the Eagles from 1998-2008, was participating in training camp as a coaching intern. He joins running backs coach Duce Staley as former Eagles who are now assistant coaches for the franchise.
