The much-anticipated rematch between American heavyweights Johnathon Banks and Seth Mitchell scheduled for Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall later this month will not be held.

Banks suffered a broken right thumb while sparring, forcing officials to postpone his fight with Mitchell until a later date.

The Feb. 16th main event between WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner and Gavin Rees will be held as scheduled, however. The bout will be telecast on HBO Championship Boxing.

Banks (29-1-1, 19 KOs) sent shock waves through the boxing community when he scored a second-round knockout over Mitchell (25-1-1, 19 KOs) on the Broner-Antonio DeMarco undercard at Boardwalk Hall on Nov. 17.

Broner (25-0, 21 KOs) will be making his first defense of the 135-pound title he won via eighth-round TKO over DeMarco. Rees (37-1-1, 18 KOs), a Wales native, is considered a big underdog.
