Absegami High School graduates Tara Booker and Sara Mostafa participated last week in the George Washington men’s and women’s basketball teams’ Colonials Invasion season tip-off event at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in nearby Fort Myer, Va.

Booker and Mostafa are fifth-year seniors for the G.W. women’s team, which started practice last week for the upcoming season.

Also in attendance as part of the festivities was St. Augustine Prep graduate and former G.W. men’s basketball star Pops Mensah-Bonsu.

“We're beginning a new era of women's basketball at George Washington under coach (Jonathan) Tsipis," Booker said in quotes posted on the team’s website. "Having Colonials Invasion on a military base this season was a perfect reminder of the great opportunity we have as student-athletes to represent more than just ourselves."

At one point, Mostafa bounced a ball off the backboard to men’s player Dwayne Smith, who windmill dunked it.

Booker and Mostafa are playing a fifth year thanks to medical redshirts. Mostafa missed last season with a fractured left hand, while Booker sat out most of her sophomore season following knee surgery.
