Andrew Pierce has set the bar high at the University of Delaware.

The junior running back from Cumberland Regional High School rushed for 90 yards on 22 carries in Thursday’s 41-21 win over West Chester. But coach K.C. Keeler said in a teleconference Monday that Pierce was not at his best.

“I thought AP looked a little sluggish,” Keeler said.

Pierce did not play much during training camp due to a hamstring injury, and he was held out of spring practices because, Keeler said, “We’re just not going to get him banged up.”

Keeler said he expects more from Pierce on Saturday against Delaware State.

“He’s still not at the level he needs to be at,” Keeler said.
