Andrew Pierce made up for some lost time Saturday.
The former Cumberland Regional High School running back, who had missed most of Delaware’s previous game due to a hamstring injury, ran for a season-high 141 yards and three touchdowns in a 47-24 win over Rhode Island.
“It was good getting Pierce back,” Blue Hens coach K.C. Keeler said in his weekly teleconference Monday. “It was a big blow not having him two weeks ago against Maine. … When you have a kid who’s rushed for 3,000 yards in two years, it’s good to have him on the field.”
Pierce tweaked his hamstring in practice a few days before the Maine game two weeks ago. He started the game but was pulled after two carries. Delaware had last week off.
“The bye week really helped us because I don’t think he could’ve played last week, but getting him back this week, he looked 100 percent,” Keeler said.
