The last time the Empire State Building in New York was lit red, the Rutgers University football team beat Louisville on a Thursday night in one of the biggest games in school history.

The Scarlet Knights hope to do it again.

The school announced Tuesday that the iconic New York building will be lit red on Thursday for Rutgers' game against Louisville, which will decide the Big East title.

In 2006, the last time the building was lit red, the unbeaten Scarlet Knights upset a Louisville team that was ranked No. 3 in the nation 28-25. Rutgers lost two of its next three, though, and still is searching for its first Big East title.

This Thursday, though, is the regular-season finale. Rutgers already has clinched at least a share of its first Big East title, but the Scarlet Knights can earn a BCS bowl bid with a win over the Cardinals.
