The Rowan University football team moved into the top 25 in the American Football Coaches Association coaches’ poll this week.

The Profs (5-1) entered the rankings at No. 22. They also moved up from 22nd to 17th in the poll.

Rowan’s only loss this season was to Division II Merrimack College. The Profs have outscored their five D-III opponents by a combined 158-37.

Rowan’s roster features 20 local players. On offense, St. Joseph graduate Keith Corcoran is second on the team with 312 rushing yards and has scored four touchdowns, and Hammonton graduate Anthony Barone is the third-leading receiver with 13 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Casey Dillon (Mainland Regional) has a team-high three interceptions, and Patrick Ruley (Atlantic City) is second on the team with 56 tackles.

The Profs’ toughest test so far will come this weekend when they play SUNY Cortland on the road. Cortland (5-1) has not lost since its opener against Buffalo State.

Cortland is tied for sixth in the nation in Division III with 44.33 points per game. The Red Dragons have scored 31 or more points in every game except one – a 20-0 victory over Montclair State.

After Cortland, the Profs finish their season with home games against Morrisville State (1-5) and Kean (4-2), and a road game against The College of New Jersey (2-4).
