The Delaware Valley College football team is on a roll, and it’s thanks in large part to a large contingent of South Jersey players — including two of the team’s four freshmen from Millville High School.
Freshman Alquann Jones (Millville) ran for 130 yards and a touchdown in a 70-0 win over Misericordia on Saturday, the Aggies’ fifth win in a row.
Jones is one of 10 Cape-Atlantic League alumni on the Delaware Valley roster. He’s second on the team with 420 yards rushing this season, and his 7.9 yards per carry are tops on the team among players with more than 13 carries.
Shaq Lee, Jones’ quarterback last season at Millville, has started Delaware Valley’s last six games at safety. Lee is fourth on the team with 32 tackles and also has an interception.
The Aggies also have freshman offensive linemen Chris Whitelam and Tyler Gandy from Millville.
Junior John Alvarez (Buena Regional) has started all seven games on the offensive line. Sophomore Dan Neate (Ocean City) is a backup.
Freshman wide receiver Dashown Waller (Mainland Regional) has four catches for 42 yards and ran for a touchdown against Misericordia. Freshman defensive back Akmed Muhammed (Oakcrest) has five tackles. Freshman kicker Tommy Worthington (Holy Spirit) has averaged 55.6 yards on 30 kickoffs, with five touchbacks.
Freshman linebacker Bob DeLuce (Ocean City) also is on the roster.
