Stafford Township native Ryan Truex will be back in a NASCAR Nationwide Series car for Saturday’s season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

In 10 Nationwide starts this season, the 20-year-old Truex has an average finish of 15th. But in his four races in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing car, which he will drive Saturday, Truex has finished 10th, 11th, second and 15th.

“(Crew chief) Matt Lucas and the No. 20 crew have been great to work with all year and have really helped me improve as a driver,” Truex said in quotes provided this week by MTJ Motorsports, which is owned by his brother, Martin Truex Jr. “They’re bringing a strong car to the track this weekend that we can definitely be in contention to win.”

Truex had been scheduled to drive in the Trucks Series race Friday night also, but those plans were scrapped. An MTJ Motorsports spokesman said Truex decided to take "more time to focus in Saturday's Nationwide Series race."

Saturday will be Truex’s first race at Homestead.

“I know if we practice and qualify well, we will be strong in the race,” he said. “Come race time, it’s important to be smart, even if you have to give up position on Lap 10 to be in contention at the end for the win.”
