St. Augustine Prep graduate Dustin Thomas plans to transfer from Villanova.
Thomas left the football team last week but plans to finish the semester at Villanova, Associate Athletics Director Dean Kenefick confirmed Tuesday. The news was first reported by VUHoops.com.
Thomas, a redshirt sophomore, opened last season as the Wildcats’ starting quarterback but struggled with injuries and lackluster play.
The Ventnor resident moved to wide receiver this year and drew solid reviews from teammates and coach Andy Talley in the preseason. But Thomas suffered a concussion late in the preseason, and while he returned to practice shortly before the season opener against Temple, he did not play in any of the team’s first three games.
In other Villanova news, wide receiver Norman White (St. Joseph) had an MRI on Monday on his injured shoulder, Talley said during a teleconference Monday. But Kenefick said the results of the MRI would not be available until later in the week.
