Martin Truex Jr. has said repeatedly that part of his success this season can be attributed to the additions of Clint Bowyer, Mark Martin and Brian Vickers to his Michael Waltrip Racing team.

Fittingly, Bowyer will be there with Truex when NASCAR’s Chase for the Championship begins this weekend.

“I think it’s going to be helpful to have Clint (Bowyer) in the Chase,” Truex, a Stafford Township native, said in quotes provided this week by MWR. “He brings a lot of experience and knowledge of the Chase.”

Just as helpful might be the third car, in which Martin and Vickers share driving duties.

“It’s also helpful to have a team not in the Chase,” Truex said. “They can take some chances and work on some stuff that maybe we wouldn’t chance in the next 10 weeks. I think we have a good mix.”

Truex is in the Chase for the first time since 2007. He and Bowyer are MWR’s first drivers ever to make it.

“It’s been a total team effort from all three teams to get us where we are this year,” Truex said. “I feel like that needs to continue over these Chase weeks. I just think it’s awesome that we have two cars strong enough to be in the Chase and three cars strong enough to win each week.”
