Martin Truex Jr. is trying his best to remain calm under pressure.

Still looking for his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win since 2007, the Stafford Township native has finished 20th or lower in three of his last six races to fall from second in the standings to seventh.

Truex told The Press two weeks ago that he wanted to win “worse than anything in the world.”

But as far as urgency, Truex said in quotes provided Tuesday by his team, Michael Waltrip Racing, that he’s not panicking. After all, he is still in a strong position to make NASCAR’s Chase for the Championship.

“I don’t feel any urgency to win at this point,” he said. “To be honest, I feel good about where we are at. I feel good about what we’ve done this season. For us, it’s just important to keep that going.

“The last couple of weeks haven’t gone the way we wanted them to, so we need to turn that around. We just need to keep working hard to stay where we are at, push forward and get our cars a little bit better.”

Through 14 races, Truex has 465 points — 17 more than eighth-place Tony Stewart, and 42 more than 11th-place Carl Edwards. The top 10 drivers, plus two wild cards based on wins, through 26 races qualify for the 10-race Chase.
