The Villanova University football team will not play again for two weeks, and that’s a good thing for St. Joseph High School graduate Norman White.

Villanova coach Andy Talley said during his weekly conference call Monday that White, the Wildcats’ star receiver, is dealing with a medial collateral ligament injury. White had just three catches for 30 yards in Saturday’s 49-35 loss to Towson.

“Norm White has a little bit of an MCL, which we’re concerned about,” Talley said. “He was really ineffective through most of the game Saturday.”

White, an NFL prospect, missed all last season with a foot injury. As a fifth-year senior this year, he already had been hampered by a torn labrum.

“Unfortunately, he’s just had a rough year physically,” Talley said.

Several other Villanova players are nursing injuries, so being off next weekend should be beneficial.

“This is not (usually) the most opportune time if you could pick your open date, but for Villanova it kind of fits very nicely,” Talley said. “I think we’re a tired football team. We’re still pretty young. I think a lot of our guys just aren’t up where they should be physically.”
