Mainland Regional High School graduate Brent Caprio will start at quarterback for the College of William & Mary's football team in its opener Saturday against the University of Maryland.

The Colonial Athletic Association's official Twitter feed reported Monday morning that William & Mary coach Jimmye Laycock had announced Caprio as the starter.

Caprio, the 2008 Press Player of the Year as a senior at Mainland, is a redshirt junior for the Tribe. He started four of their last five games last season, going 2-2.

He led the team in completions (68), completion percentage (63.6), passing yards (795) and touchdown passes (six) and also ran for one touchdown.

Caprio beat out fellow redshirt junior Michael Graham and redshirt sophomore Raphael Ortiz for the job.
