I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to shill for other newspapers here, but The Star-Ledger has entered into a partnership with PolitiFact, a national fact-checking organization. And the result is PolitiFact New Jersey — politifact.com/new-jersey/.

The group does a great job cutting through the claims and counterclaims in today’s political debates. It researches politicians’ statements and ranks them on its Truth-O-Meter. The rankings range from the obvious “True” to “Mostly True,” “Half True,” “Barely True.” It’s a valuable tool for anyone interested in public issues.

Of course the group is still new to New Jersey, so no one yet in the Garden State has received PolitiFact’s worst ranking — “Pants on Fire.” But it won’t be long ... it won’t be long ...

Just do me a favor and don’t tell anyone you read about it here.

Thanks.

  • Editorials on the Opinion Page represent the newspaper's institutional voice. That's why they're unsigned. But they're written by real-life individuals - usually Jim Perskie or Tim Faherty. But editorial writers always have thoughts and observations of their own. Check out Jim's blog.
