Folks distressed by the high salaries some public-safety employees make in New Jersey might want to check this out.

Turns out some California lifeguards can make more than $200,000 a year. And they can retire at age 50 after 30 years of service and get 90 percent of their salary.

Why, oh why didn't I sign up to be a Newport Beach lifeguard 30 years ago?
