While the Cape-Atlantic League struggles to realign for high school football, one of the league's most prominent members moved a step closer to leaving the league Friday.

Hammonton High School has applied to join the West Jersey League for football and the Tri-County Conference for all other sports, Hammonton athletic director Frank Torcasio said Thursday. Tri-County officials are expected to tour Hammonton's athletic facilities Friday. The earliest Hammonton could leave the CAL is the 2014-15, under the CAL constitution.

Meanwhile, CAL president and Mainland Regional athletic director Mike Gatley said the league has formed a committee to give the schools mandated football schedules for 2012 and 2013.

He also said CAL officials are scheduled to meet in March with representatives from the West Jersey Football League and discuss the CAL joining that league.
