Millville High School running back Alquann Jones stands on the verge of a historic milestone, according to South Jersey football historian Chuck Langerman.

Jones has rushed for 1,779 yards and has at least two games remaining. Jones is trying to become the fourth local player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season.

He would join Matt McLain of Pinelands Regional (2,544 yards last season), William Washington of Holy Spirit (2,060 yards in 2007) and Keith Elias of Lacey Township (2,299 yards in 1989).

Millville (9-0) is No. 3 in The Press Elite 11. The Thunderbolts host Washington Township (7-2) in a South Jersey Group IV semifinal Friday at 7 p.m. If Millville wins, it advances to the S.J. final on Dec. 2 at Rowan University.

Millville also plays rival Vineland on Thanksgiving.

As always, thanks to Chuck Langerman for the stats update.
