One of the region’s best high school rivalries regardless of sport renews tonight.

The St. Augustine Prep boys basketball team (2-0) plays at Middle Township (1-0) at 7 p.m. Middle Township is No. 5 in The Press Elite 11, while St. Augustine is No. 6.

These teams are perennial powers. St. Augustine has won four state titles under coach Paul Rodio. Coach Tom Feraco has led Middle to three state championships.

Middle opened the season with a 77-41 win over Bridgeton. Senior swing man Tom Feraco, the coach’s son, scored 18 points.

St. Augustine was won both its games by double digits. The senior backcourt of Michael Greenman (13.5 ppg) and David Sullivan (12 ppg) lead the Hermits.

These teams met three times last season with Middle winning twice, including a 50-49 victory in the Cape-Atlantic League semifinals on a last-second shot by guard Tom Catanoso.
