EWING TOWNSHIP - The St. Joseph High School football team capped one of the most dominant seasons ever by a local team with a state championship Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats beat St. Mary's of Rutherford 51-0 to win the state Non-Public I title at the College of New Jersey in Mercer County.

Eli Pogue sparked the Wildcats with 127 rushing yards and three touchdowns. St. Joe running back and defensive back Daryl Smith threw a touchdown pass, caught a touchdown pass and added an interception.

St. Joe outscored its 10 opponents 474-19. The Wildcats did not allow a touchdown in their last 31 quarters.

St. Joe has won three straight state championships and 14 since the state Non-Public playoffs began in 1993.
