Atlantic Cape Community College student Rebecca Sundstrom, of Cape May, has been training as an actor, singer, dancer and model since age 3.
The 21-year-old communications student will appear tonight at 8 on MTV’s show “10 on Top,” modeling as Karmin and the rock group Neon Trees perform in the show’s “Most Stylin Stars of the Year” episode. The show bills itself as “a half-hour countdown of the Top 10 most texted and talked about young celebrities of the moment,” and was filmed at the MTV Total Request Live studio in New York City’s Times Square.
Sundstrom is co-host of Atlantic Cape's social media news segment, the Atlantic Cape News Minute, and has the lead in Cape Island Theater Company’s Christmas show, “Carl Kris Kringle.” She will appear in the new TV cop show “Golden Boy” on CBS in 2013, and recently filmed a lead role in a television pilot, she said.
“I’m not sure when I’ll find out if it gets picked up,” Sundstrom said of the pilot.
Her father, Harry S. Sundstrom, is a plumber, and mom, Debbie, is a culinary arts teacher at Lower Cape May Regional High School. Her sister Ashley, 25, is a singer living in Los Angeles; and her brother Roy, 23, is a student at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, and is in the Army National Guard in Cape May Court House, Sundstrom said.
Performances of “Carl Kris Kringle” are Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. at the Grange at Historic Cold Spring Village in Lower Township.
Cancer class
Dr. Paul Chung, medical director of the Cancer Center at Southern Ocean Medical Center, spoke to Southern Regional High School AP Biology and Anatomy and Physiology classes Nov. 29. It is the sixth year of the cooperative venture between the school and medical center.
Chung gave the students a comprehensive definition of various types of cancer and their treatments, and allowed student volunteers to examine organs affected by cancer.
Commencement speaker
Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Associate Professor of Writing Emari DiGiorgio, a Stockton alumna who lives in Ventnor, will be the Commencement speaker for the college’s Fall Commencement at 1 p.m. on Dec. 16.
DiGiorgio’s poems have appeared in numerous print and online journals, and she is a recipient of a Vermont Studio Center residency, a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Poetry fellowship, and the Ellen LaForge Memorial Poetry Prize.
