Jon Baltz, of Ocean City, was watching the Super Bowl last Sunday when a familiar face showed up on the screen, in a Calvin Klein underwear commercial.
“I recognized him right away. It was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s Matt Terry — I went to high school with him.’ It was crazy,” said Baltz, a 2008 graduate of Ocean City High School, now a student at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey who works for Pepsi Co.
“We used to go fishing all the time. We’d wake up at 5 a.m.,” Baltz said.
Matthew Terry, 21, is a 2009 OCHS graduate and a personal trainer who co-won the annual VMAN/Ford Model Search contest in 2011.
“Right after I graduated, friends and family suggested I give (modeling) a shot,” said Terry, of Ocean City, who played football and wrestled in high school, and has been serious about working out since seventh grade.
He was attending Atlantic Cape Community College, and had some photos taken. His mom, Deborah Terry, submitted them to the VMAN contest, he said.
“She went behind my back and submitted the photos,” Terry said. When he won, “I was pretty ecstatic. I owe a lot to her.”
Terry said he goes to the gym five days a week.
Dad David Terry is a sales manager who travels a lot, Terry said. He has three brothers, Wesley, 34, of Pennsylvania; Jacob, 19; and Luke, 17, a junior in OCHS.
Terry, whose Super Bowl ad introduced Calvin Klein Concept seamless underwear, is also on a Times Square electronic billboard. He was chosen the face of Calvin Klein’s Dark Obsession fragrance, which debuts March 1.

Centenarian honored
Thomas F. Durney, who turned 100 Feb. 2, was honored at a Hammonton Town Council meeting recently for his community contributions on the St. Joseph Church Parish Council, in the Serra Club, and in the Knights of Columbus.
Durney raised his family in Hammonton while commuting to North Jersey for his job as a glass grinder for Becton Dickinson. His wife, Elsie S. (Pinto) died in 1990 at age 73.
His daughter, Barbara LaSasso, lives in Hammonton. His son, Martin, lives in Berlin, Camden County.
Shore nurse a Guardian Angel
Nurse David Gittle, of Galloway Township, is the February 2013 Guardian Angel of the Month at Shore Medical Center, for providing exceptional care to patients.
The Guardian Angel Program was established to enable patients to say thank you to a special caregiver through a donation to Shore Medical Center.
