Going GoPro - Press of Atlantic City: Blog: A Photographer's View

Going GoPro

We recently purchased a GoPro camera and it is just as cool as imagined. If you’re not familiar with the GoPro camera, it’s a very small video camera, about the size of a rectangular ring box ( a little over 1 x 2 inches), that shoots hi-def video. One of the great things about it is the waterproof housing that comes with it and the set of elbows and brackets that allow you to attach the camera almost anywhere. I was concerned at first because the camera does not have a viewfinder. You point the camera and shoot. Kind of a permanent hail-Mary shot. But the lens has such a wide angle that it’s easier than you’d think to capture what you want. I first tested it on a sailboat and the results were pretty cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5cKYjEXwFM During the Atlantic City Airshow I attached the camera to a stunt plane. The camera was attached to one of the struts on the wing. It worked out well until the vibration from the older plane shook the camera out of position. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj6dbQ6rYdY If you have any suggestions on where you think we should use the camera let me know.
