While baseball fans are excited Spring Training is here, one person has yet to enjoy the start of baseball season.
Millville native Mike Trout has yet to appear in a game for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim because he's battling a virus, according to MLB.com.
"That virus knocked him down pretty good," Angels manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com on Sunday. "You want to make sure he gets some strength back, gets some fluids back. He's full-go on the field in drills. He's days away from playing."
Trout had lost about 10 pounds while he was sick, but said he is feeling better.
He had visited a few different doctors to see why he hasn't felt well for about three weeks, he told USA Today.
"I want to be on the field, it's tough, obviously,'' Trout told USA Today on Sunday. "But I don't want to go out and risk injury. I want to get my weight back and feel better. I set high goals for myself, but when you're not on the field, you can't accomplish them.''
Those goals include making the Angels opening day roster, however, before the illness it might have been difficult for him. Los Angeles is loaded with outfielders right now: Bobby Abreu, Vernon Wells, Torii Hunter and Peter Bourjos.
Trout is likely to start the season in Triple-A.
Trout, 20, played in 40 games last for the Angels. He hit .220 with five home runs and 16 RBIs.
