Atlantic Cape Community College men's basketball has a new face leading the Buccaneers.

Andrew Fields, who played basketball professionally, was named to the position on Thursday. Fields has a long and extensive history in the sport.

Fields was a star at Atlantic City High School back in the early- to mid-1970s. The Atlantic City resident was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1979. Then he spent 18 years playing in the NBA and other professional basketball leagues, including time in Europe.

Fields was also an assistant coach for the Atlantic City Seagulls, a United States Basketball League team that no longer exists.

In college, Fields played for famed college basketball coach John Chaney at Cheyney State where he and his team won the Division II national basketball championship. Fields was also named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

Atlantic Cape starts its season Nov. 5 at home against Hostos at 2 p.m.
