As Danielle Tauro continues with her professional running career, she's entered several races throughout the country – many of them firsts for the Southern Regional High School graduate.

Tauro, a Michigan University graduate, competed in her first road race as a pro, and she did pretty well.

At the USA 1-Mile Road Championships, Tauro finished third overall in 4 minutes, 40 seconds. The event took place on May 17 in Minneapolis, Minn.

“It was better than I expected,” Tauro told RunnerSpace.com. “I did a course walkthrough this morning and taking notes where the tangents were or where the curves were. Just how to run the tangents and where the inclines were. I didn't feel that much during the race just focused on the people I was running with. I was really happy with it.”

Tauro said she is also doing some of the best running she has done in years. She is focused on her training, working with her former college coach Mike McGuire.

At the Peyton Jordan Invite in April, Tauro finished fourth in her section in the 1,500-meter run in 4:16.12, a personal best by at least two seconds.

“It's good to finally be hitting PRs again in the 1,500 and the mile,” Tauro said. “I haven't had a good outdoor season since my sophomore year in college. So I am just glad to be healthy finally and running strong.”
