Mat Piotrowski will play basketball for Southwestern Illinois College, a junior college, this winter, BND.com reported.

Piotrowski, a 7-foot-1 ½ center, played just 16 minutes in eight games at Boston University before requesting a transfer in March.

The Port Republic resident graduated from Atlantic Christian in Egg Harbor Township in 2009. His senior year, he averaged 14.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 6.4 blocks a game.

SWIC was 21-9 last season.

“He's 7-1 1/2 with flip-flops on, with shoes, he's more like 7-3,'' SWIC coach Jay Harrington told BND.com. "Every kid who comes to school here needs to work things. Part of my job is to help develop those areas that need work and then help these young men move on to the next level.

"I've been told that Mat, in individual workouts, has great skills, but he didn't get a lot of game time or even practice time at Boston U. He needs to play in a five-on-five format. He just needs someone to believe in him. I believe in him.''
