Last year, MLB.com named Millville's Mike Trout as the overall top prospect in baseball.
This year's list is due out tonight at 10 p.m. on the MLB Network and MLB.com
While Trout will be high on that list, the likelihood of him grabbing to the top spot is low. However, expect a top 5 placement for the speedy outfielder.
Even though Trout played in 40 Major League games last season, MLB deemed him still a rookie because he did not exceed 130 MLB at-bats or accumulate 45 days on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim active roster.
In MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo's annual list, he ranked Trout second behind Washington Nationals' farmhand Bryce Harper in top 10 outfield prospects.
Here's what Mayo said about Trout:
"It's amazing how quickly expectations can change. Coming out of the New Jersey high school ranks, it was unclear just what Trout would do in his first full season. When that 2010 campaign was a huge success, Trout became the top prospect in the game and the bar was raised. He surpassed that bar as a teenager in Double-A last year, hitting for average, getting on base, stealing bases and showing more extra-base pop. Yet Trout's lack of prolonged success in the big leagues left some a touch disappointed. It would be a mistake to put too much stock in that, as Trout's ceiling as a game-changer on both sides of the ball is still very, very high."
The 20-year-old hit .220 (27-for-123) in 40 games with the Angels with five home runs and 16 RBIs.
