As the Olympic Summer Games getting closer and closer, races are getting better with athletes – hopefully – peaking at the right time.
This past weekend, Pleasantville High School graduate Nia Ali competed at the Donovan Bailey Invitational in Edmonton, Canada in the 100-meter hurdles.
She finished second in 12.78 seconds, just beaten out by Olympic bronze medalist Priscilla Lopes Schliep who ran it in 12.76.
This is the final tune up for Ali as she heads for the Olympics Trials, which starts Thursday in Eugene, Ore. The first round of the 100 hurdles is Friday with 32 athletes.
The final is Saturday at 8:45 p.m., and will be aired on NBC.
The top three finishers will make the Olympic team.
Also competing in the Olympic Trials is a 2006 Ocean City High School graduate Renee Tomlin. She will compete in the 1,500-meter run. She comes in with a qualifying time of 4 minutes, 11.31 seconds, which is the 12th seed of the declared entries.
